Pre-Installation Preparation
Clean the Tailgate
Thoroughly wash the tailgate surface to remove dirt, road film, wax, or grease. Pay close attention to edges, body lines, and recessed areas.
If your tailgate has badges, emblems, or a handle trim piece, you may remove them for a cleaner install, but this is optional.
Final Surface Prep
Wipe the entire tailgate with a 70% Isopropyl Alcohol solution to eliminate any remaining residue. Allow the surface to fully dry before applying vinyl.
Installation Instructions
1. Dry Fit the Vinyl
Hold the vinyl up to the tailgate and center it left to right. Ensure even spacing along the top and bottom edges.
Use masking tape along the top edge to create a hinge once you are satisfied with placement.
2. Apply the Vinyl
Flip the vinyl upward on the tape hinge and slowly peel back the liner.
Starting from the top center, use your squeegee to apply the vinyl downward, working from the center outward to prevent bubbles. Continue smoothing from top to bottom in steady strokes.
3. Work Around the Handle & Body Lines
For tailgate handles or stamped body lines, gently lay the vinyl over the area first.
Do not force or stretch the material. Instead, lightly heat the vinyl and press it into recessed areas using firm, controlled pressure with your squeegee.
4. Avoid Overstretching
Do not aggressively stretch the vinyl across edges or deep recesses. If needed, gently lift the material and reapply with light heat to help it conform naturally.
5. Trim Excess Material
Once fully applied, carefully trim around the outer edge of the tailgate using a sharp hobby knife. Leave a small wrap around the edge when possible for added durability.
6. Remove Air Bubbles
If small bubbles appear, use an air release tool or fine pin to puncture the bubble and gently press the air outward.
7. Post-Heat Edges
Lightly heat all edges and recessed areas to activate the adhesive and improve long-term durability. Keep the heat source several inches away and use low, controlled heat.
Final Inspection
Inspect the entire tailgate surface for bubbles, wrinkles, or lifting edges. Apply firm pressure and light heat where needed to ensure full adhesion.
